We're here!!!

Thursday, October 10, 6:46 p.m.:

Our flight was smooth, faster than we thought, and the food was delicious!! Our seats weren't together at first, and they were both middles, so our chances of switching we thought were slim, but Benson's row had a couple split so he took Benson's spot and the man next to me was trying to be by his wife and it never worked so he nicely switched. On my other side was a wife and her husband was across the aisle and they were from Argentina going on a four week tour of China all on their own. Our flight had individualized tv's with TV shows, movies, games, and a map of where we were at. I watched Gatsby and kept flipping to the map. We flew up through Canada, over Alaska, and then down through Russia and China. We catnapped here and there. It was funny watching an episode of Friends with the Chinese subtitles, and our breakfast had the yummy almond cookies with a real almond on top!

We found our agency guide with no problem and she brought us to the bus with two other families. A 40 minute ride later, with a little nap but mainly trying to soak it all in, we got to our beautiful hotel. The view from our room:

I love the old architecture blended with the modern, and yes, that's a Catholic Church dome :) we braved crossing the street to get Benson a SIM card and buy water from the 7-11 and then crashed! I slept for almost twelve hours and Benson would sleep for a chunk and then be up for a bit and sleep again.

It's now 7:41 am Friday and we go to Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, and ride a rickshaw today. Super excited, but counting down the seconds until Monday!!!!

Thank you for all the prayers that flew with us and continue while we are here.
